Low scores here suggest that people are interpreting their instructions differently. There should not be any room for different interpretation – the language used should be direct and precise. However, telling people in minute detail what they should do and how they should do it would take away the control and autonomy important to motivation. Aim to communicate a clear picture of what should be done, while allowing staff an appropriate degree of freedom to find the best way to do it.
